  • Bookstart

Bookstart Cymru aims to give a free pack of information and books to every baby in Wales.

In Newport the baby pack is given out by registrars and your health visitor.

  • Book crawl

Children aged 0 - 4 years old can collect stickers every time they visit their local library and when they have collected 4 they receive a certificate designed by a children’s book illustrator.

A free, weekly term-time session for pre-school children and their carers. Story clubs will resume when COVID restrictions allow. Keep an eye on Newport City Council social media for online events and stories.

Designed to help you choose at least one book a month to share with your child for the first five years of their life

Creative opportunities for children who show exceptional talent in creative writing or a passion for reading and story-telling and are nominated by their school

Newport libraries are calling for children to sign up to the Summer Reading Challenge 2021.

We know that reading for pleasure is important for children's development so we want to encourage families to read and have fun together throughout the winter. There will also be rewards available for reading and reviewing books!

Come along to Rogerstone Library for storytelling, live interactive drawing and to learn about the story-making process with author Tom McLaughlin. Booking is essential.

Come along to Malpas Library to hear Andy Seed, author of the Blue Peter award winning ‘The Silly Book of Side Splitting Stuff’ entertain families with poems and stories.
